A premium portable split air conditioner, designed for Dutch homes that were never built for heat — and for the people who rent them.
The problem
The housing stock is old, much of it is rented, and a good deal of it is protected. Drilling through a façade is often not allowed and frequently not possible. Meanwhile the summers keep getting hotter, and when a heatwave arrives everything on the shelf sells out within days.
Portable monobloc units are the usual answer, and they are loud, inefficient and ugly. A portable split puts the compressor outside the window without permanent alteration — the cooling of a fixed unit, none of the commitment.
The product
We are launching with a single unit rather than a range. One specification, chosen carefully, at the top of the market — not three compromises at three price points.
Propane, with a global warming potential of 3. It sits outside the EU F-gas restrictions tightening from January 2027 rather than scraping under them.
The noise and the heat go out of the window. No core drilling, no permanent fixing, no landlord conversation.
A heat pump works both ways. Useful in a cold room in March, when turning on the whole house is not worth it.
Dutch building rules cap outdoor units at 40 dB(A) at the property boundary in the evening. We specify against that limit, not around it.
How we intend to work
It fails on what happens after the box arrives. Late deliveries, unanswered warranty claims, returns that go nowhere. We have watched a competitor lose its retail listings over exactly that, while its product reviews stayed good.
Everything lands before May. We would rather carry inventory than tell a customer in a heatwave to wait three weeks.
A Dutch company, a Dutch number and a person who picks it up. Not a ticket queue in another time zone.
These units are heavy and three flights of Amsterdam stairs are no joke. We will publish the real figure and offer a carry option rather than find out at the door.

VELEA is a Dutch company, founded in 2026 to bring one well-made product to a market that needs it. We import directly from the factory, hold our own stock in the Netherlands, and handle service, warranty and returns ourselves.
We are not a marketplace reseller and we are not a dropshipper. We select one product, put our name on it, hold the stock and answer for it.
